ABOUT INA LEAH

Ina Leah, previously known as Gabriela Elisabeth Edawani Fernandez, offers her transdisciplinary work that weaves art and wellbeing practices in the form of improvisational music, expressive painting, collective dance, intricate crafts, and immersive moving image. A performer, visual artist, writer, and a workshop facilitator, Ina Leah is also a neurodivergent creator with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. Her practice not only asks questions but also offers practical, grounded solutions through the healing powers of art, demonstrating her lifelong commitment to enhancing physical and mental wellbeing through creative expression. Rooted in the cultural practices of her heritage from the Lamaholot Culture of East Nusa Tenggara, her community inspires her deeply with its traditions of collective participation and improvisation. These practices are nurturing the intricate tapestry of life and the interconnectedness of human experiences, not only between humans but also, our connections with nature. This provides a foundation of embodied knowledge and oral traditions that inform her creative output. Ina Leah also draws significant inspiration from "Tenun," a traditional woven fabric crafted by the women of her community. [“Ina” means female or mother in Lamaholot language--which also being used by the community to refer the mother earth and the ocean, while “Leah” is an anagram of heal, a testament to art for wellbeing path that she has been working on.]
